Jay Smith (Smiffy)

 

Studied at Morley College London; classical percussion and planet drum. Studied latin conga and also last student of the great Robin Jones (king salsa). Spent 2 years in South Africa studying the djembe drum, then travelling all over South Africa performing.

 

I've played congas and bongos for 20 years now in a few formats, like traditional Cuban and African music and then started to experiment with dance music and now today, I've found found my sound, my passion and with that, I can really express myself with what I really enjoy to play and to play for everyone.

Over the years I've played all over the world and with some fantastic muscians and djs. I've played in a lot of clubs in London from Pascha to Turnmills to the River Thames boat parties, The Royal Festival Hall London to Cape Town Beach for Red Bull. 

 

I'm now based in Bournemouth and i've played many venues in and around Bournemouth.

 

I feel passionate to share my unique music, and I believe many of you will love it too.

Im a cheeky, fun, energetic, loyal, hard working musician always striving to make the next performance the best one.

 

 

I now combine a fusion of latin and house music to produce a vibrant and uplifting sound, which I also incorporate live percussion too. Close your eyes and imagine being at your pool side or on the beach on a perfect day, sun shining where you can hear the sumptuous sounds of soft congas playing to a real funky sun drenched tune that you could listen to all day. Then in the evening the tempo increases. You feel the uncontrollable need to get up and dance to the latin, ballerric sounds that you just can't resist to dance to. Then when the party really gets going we enter my other passion 90s old skool dance music. This is what I grew up with and learned my trade as a club percussionist playing in awesome clubs with the planets best djs. It was a fantastic time to be a part of. I can take you back to Ibiza in the 90s. Then take it to the next level I worked for Red Bull in South Africa for a year doing events at some amazing venues.

I can offer the complete package including a full pa system with a great light show to accommodate up to 500 people, with added attraction of a live musician. I have aquirred the newest led lighting units to create both a classy atmosphere or a full on Ibiza style party. Im able to play in a restaurant environment with chilled latin based jazz café style, to a full on Ibiza club vibe to to show my diversity.
